“Earlier this week Domino's Pizza had to issue an apologyover a promotion it ran in Australia and New Zealand, offering free pizza to "nice Karens".
The company didn't pick out the name Karen at random. "Karen" has, in recent years, become a widespread meme referencing a specific type of middle-class white woman, who exhibits behaviours that stem from privilege.
To give some examples, "Karen" is associated with the kind of person who demands to "speak to the manager" in order to belittle service industry workers, is anti-vaccination, and carries out racist micro-aggressions, such as asking to touch black people's hair.But a predominant feature of the "Karen" stereotype is that they weaponise their relative privilege against people of colour - for example, when making police complaints against black people for minor or even - in numerous cases - fictitious infringements.

And in recent months, the meme has evolved into something new: Coronavirus Karen. This particular form of Karen refuses to wear a face covering in shops, won't stick to quarantine, and thinks the whole pandemic thing is overblown.
But as the meme has become increasingly mainstream, some have argued that it's sexist and ageist.”
Based on Wet Playground experience with Karens, we decided to share our manifestation and measures we take. At Wet Playground
We strive to maintain a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for all our attendees AND team members. To achieve this, we have certain guidelines in place that ensure our events are safe, respectful, and harmonious for everyone involved. We understand that sometimes conflicts can arise, but it's important for us to address these issues constructively and fairly.

We value your participation and support; however, we occasionally find it necessary to take certain actions that may lead to blocking certain individuals from our events. This article outlines some of the main reasons that could lead to such actions. Please read them carefully before deciding to attend our parties:

    Unsolicited Advice/Feedback/Reviews:
    We appreciate your feedback and acknowledge that no event is perfect. If you encounter aspects of our events that you feel could be improved, like wait times at the bar or restroom, we kindly request you to consider whether it's an issue directly related to our organisation (program, rules, ticket scanning) or the venue itself (bar service, facilities, staff). If it's the latter, please keep in mind that there are limitations to what we can influence. We have dedicated team members who constantly provide us with feedback, so rest assured that your concerns are heard without even telling us. If you saw something - we also saw it. Always think twice before wasting your time running to us and screaming about it.

    Unapproved One-on-One Meetings:
    To maintain the integrity and security of our events, we request that attendees do not attempt to meet with any of our team members one-on-one at the event without prior approval. This helps ensure that any interactions remain consensual and respectful for everyone.

    Negativity, Sexual Overtures, or Aggression:
    We encourage a positive and respectful atmosphere at our events. Any comments, actions, or non-verbal expressions that convey negativity, sexual overtones, or aggression towards our team members or fellow attendees or team members without their consent will not be tolerated.

    Negative Reviews via Direct Messages:
    We respect your right to express your opinions and experiences; however, we kindly request that you refrain from sending us negative reviews in direct messages that may harm our project's reputation. Unsolicited negative feedback, especially if it's expressed in an excessive or aggressive manner, may result in being blocked from our events. More letters you write in a negative tone about us - more chances you have to be blocked forever. - it is funny to admit, but we do not want to hear from you if we did not ask for it. Really. Please do not waste your time writing us long messages with thousands of words about how awful your experience was. We know the stats! And we know that if you do this - you fall in 1% of people that we personally DO NOT WANT to see at our events. Yes, it is straightforward and direct. But in order to react to the audience you need, you also need to filter the audience you do not need. It's natural.

    Proposals for Collaboration sent outside the form we have established here:
    Collaboration is highly valued, but we have a specific process for it. If you wish to collaborate with us, please utilise the established form on our website. Unsolicited attempts to attend our events for free under the guise of "collab" will not be entertained. We had too many negative experiences with people who promised us hard work, unbelievable contacts and a lot of extra revenue, but in fact just attended our event for free and gave nothing. To become a part of our team you need to really do something, not just speaking.

    Violation of Event Rules:
    Our event guidelines are set to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment. Please familiarize yourself with them and comply accordingly.

    Excessive Spam and Questions:
    We strive to provide timely responses to your inquiries. However, before reaching out, we kindly request you to explore the information available on our social media pages and websites. The answers to most of your questions can often be found there.
    Spamming our team with an excessive number of messages may hinder our ability to respond effectively.

    Tickets are non-refundable or exchangeable.
    Please note that our tickets are non-refundable, and cancellations on short notice impact our planning. If you can't make it, you may resell your ticket. Just inform us, and ensure the new buyer is aware the ticket is genuine.Thank you for your understanding.
